The suspect’s motive for the attacks is not yet known.
“The tragedy occurred in an ordinary family”, Kulcs mayor Csaba Kiss
said. The family, he said, did not have close ties to the community.
Horvath’s father worked in the construction business and had served a jail
term for fraud related to state benefits.
Residents of Kulcs, a hillside town of 2,500 inhabitants, were surprised and
terrified by news of the killings.
“We are shocked, paralyzed, we never thought this could happen in such a
quiet little village,” Mihaly Sinka, who lived a few doors down from
the house where the killings took place, told Reuters.
“Had I left my house two minutes earlier, he could have slaughtered me.”
Three weeks ago a 21-year-old man fatally stabbed his mother and attacked his
father in Tatabanya, a town 34 miles from Budapest before jumping from a
10th floor window.
