Indian Embassy in US gets bomb threat

“I can confirm that there was a bomb threat at the Indian Embassy in Washington earlier today,” State Department spokeswoman, Victoria Nuland, told reporters on Tuesday, AFP said.

“Appropriate law enforcement personnel responded immediately,” she added.

Nuland said that the chancellery and the Indian mission’s official locations in Washington, DC were “evacuated and checked for bombs,” but “no device was located.”

She went on to say that an investigation would take place into the source of the threat.

About 130 to 140 people were inside the embassy at the time it received the anonymous bomb threat call.

A few months ago, the security measures taken at the embassy were improved and metal detectors were installed to screen every visitor to the premises.
