Iran condemns massacre in Houla

“The attack has been carried out in order to create chaos and instability in Syria and its perpetrators are trying to block the way to a peaceful resolution,” Mehmanparast said on Sunday.

Mehmanparast added that Iran denounces this ‘suspicious attack,’ stressing the necessity of identifying and punishing the perpetrators.

Deadly clashes between Syrian forces and armed groups broke out on May 25 in Houla, located in the central province of Homs, about 32 kilometers (20 miles) northwest of the provincial capital city of Homs.

Head of the UN observer mission in Syria Major General Robert Mood said a UN team had counted 92 bodies, including at least 32 children, after it arrived in the village for investigation on May 26.

However, according to UN peacekeeping chief Herve Ladsous, Mood later told a meeting of the UN Security Council that the UN observers had raised the death toll in Houla to 108 after revisiting the scene.

“We are certain that foreign interferences, terrorist and suspicious measures which have targeted the resilient Syrian people are doomed to fail,” Mehmanparast added.

Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jihad Makdissi said on Sunday that Damascus holds “armed groups” responsible for the deadly massacre in Houla.
