‘Iran influential in resolving ME crises’

“Iran is a very, very influential country and it is a very important country,” Taleb Ibrahim told Press TV from Syria’s capital Damascus.

“No one can ignore Iran, in all over the Middle East, in Central Asia and the Caspian Sea rim and also in the Persian Gulf. So if you will find any, or if you will look for any political resolution for any crisis in all over the Middle East… you must look for Iran and you must engage Iran,” he added.

He made the remarks in reference to Syria which has been the scene of violence since March 2011.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Tehran should be invited to an international conference on Syria in Geneva.

“It is better to involve Iran in the settlement (of the Syrian crisis),” Putin said.

The analyst also pointed out to Moscow’s stance regarding Iran’s presence in talks about Syria.

“The Russians thought that if you want to stop violence, we must make a balance in making this operation that regional forces and international forces who are funding and who are supplying these militant groups inside Syria, they must stop this,” Ibrahim said.

Russia has frequently emphasized the importance of Iran’s presence in the meeting. Britain, France and the US have, however, expressed opposition to Iran’s involvement in the initiative to resolve the Syrian crisis.

Joint UN-Arab League envoy for Syria Kofi Annan intends to hold a meeting of key member states in Geneva on Saturday to talk about the unrest in Syria.
