Iran launches new anti-armor missile

“The Dehlavieh missile is one of the most advanced anti-armor missiles designed to destroy a variety of advanced tanks that are equipped with reactive armor,” Gen. Vahidi said Saturday in a ceremony inaugurating the mass production line of the weapon system.

He emphasized that the Dehlavieh’s “specific guidance system” makes it particularly resistant against any sorts of electronic warfare systems.

“The warhead and launch engine of the missile, in addition to being mobile and shoulder-launchable, makes the Dehlavieh missile system a strategic battle hardware in anti-tank warfare,” said the Iranian defense minister.

Dehlavieh is the name of a region in southern Khuzestan Province where the Islamic Republic’s first Defense Minister Dr. Mostafa Chamran attained martyrdom while personally guiding his forces against the invading armor units of the Iraqi forces in the 1980’s war the former dictator Saddam Hussein imposed on Iran.

Elaborating further on the missile’s features, Gen. Vahidi added the system was so designed to strike stationary targets on the ground as well as mobile armor targets.

He also noted that with the mass delivery of the missile system to ground forces of the regular army and the Islamic Revolution’s Guards Corps (IRGC), the anti-armor capabilities of our armed forces will be considerably enhanced.
