“In case of a possible threat against the country’s borders, the [Islamic] establishment’s enemies will face a crushing and firm response from the armed forces including the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy,” Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi said on Saturday in Mashhad.
Referring to Iran’s statement on closing the Strait of Hormuz in the face of threats, Fadavi said, “The Islamic Republic has the ability to[carry out] what it has stated and has proved this during the [eight years] of imposed war [with Iraq].”
“Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz between 1366-1367, when our country’s borders, facilities and refineries were threatened by aggressors,” the Iranian commander added.
“During the Sacred Defense when the military capabilities of Iran’s Navy were much less than now, the US and other enemies could do nothing about the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran,” Fadavi said.
Over the past years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.
On June 15, Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the Islamic Republic’s naval forces will firmly counter any threat and deal with insecurity single-handedly.
Tehran has repeatedly clarified that its military might is merely based on the nation’s defense doctrine of deterrence and poses no threat to other countries.
