‘Iran pleased with Iraq political stability’

In a meeting with Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim on Wednesday in Tehran, Larijani said, “This is the best time for serving the people and resolving their problems.”

“As a result of the policies of [former Iraqi dictator] Saddam Hussein and the US government, Iraqi people have been oppressed and deprived for several decades,” the Iranian official said.

“Now that Saddam’s regime has fallen and the military forces of the occupiers have left the country, serious attempts must be made to build Iraq,” Larijani added.

The Majlis Speaker stressed the necessity of improving parliamentary ties between the two countries and said, “Now that Iraq is the president of the Arab League, it is expected that it uses this opportunity to establish more stability and security in the region.”

Al-Hakim, for his part, presented Larijani with a report on Iraq’s current developments and described the process of strengthening stability and security as positive and progressive despite foreign interference.
