‘Iran seeks win-win result in P5+1 talks’

“We want to see a win-win outcome,” Salehi told ISNA in an interview on Monday. “We have repeatedly emphasized that we seek interaction and do not welcome confrontation.”

The top Iranian diplomat advised the Western powers to refrain from any ‘irrational’ move and base their dealings with Iran on logical grounds.

Salehi reiterated diplomacy as the only means of settling the differences over Iran’s nuclear energy program.

The Iranian foreign minister pointed to the increasing threats by some Western countries against Iran and said the Islamic Republic would never hesitate to defend its rights and territorial integrity.

“If they (the West) want to act unwisely, they must be aware that the Islamic Republic of Iran will brilliantly defend its sovereignty as it did during the imposed Iran-Iraq war.”

The Iranian people have historically shown that they have defended (Iran’s) integrity, said Salehi, calling on the Iranian nation to remain united in the face of additional sanctions.

In a bid to pile up pressure on the Islamic Republic, the US and the European Union have recently imposed unilateral financial and oil sanctions against Iran.

The sanctions by the US and EU are aimed at putting pressure on Iran over its nuclear energy program, which Washington, Israel and some of their allies claim includes a military component.

Iran dismisses such allegations, arguing that, as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use the nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
