Iran snatches nine medals in Kazakhstan athletics event

Iranian sportsmen have delivered laudable displays of talent at Kazakhstan Track and Field Tournament, and collected nine medals, including five gold, during the two-day international sports event.

On Tuesday, Mohammad Samimi took part in the discus throw competitions of the tournament at the Almaty Central Stadium, and stood atop the podium with his best attempt of 63.56 meters.

Iranian high jumper Mohammad Reza Vazifehdoust added another gold to the Islamic Republic’s medal tally by registering 2.23 meters in the final contest. Kayvan Ghanbarzadeh pocketed the silver medal of the same heat with 2.16 meters.

Mostafa Ebrahimi also clocked 1:48.40 in the men’s 800-meter race, and landed in the top position to be awarded the gold medal.

In the men’s 200-meter final encounter, Ali Khadivar set the time of 20.79 second to take a gold medal. Reza Ghasemi recorded 20.12 seconds and received the silver.

Moreover, Sobhan Taherkhani leapt 7 meters and 61 centimeters in the men’s long jump competitions on Monday, and finished runner-up to clinch a silver medal.

Ghasemi and Khadivar also competed in 100-meter race, and clocked 10.36 and 10.50 seconds respectively to capture the gold and silver medals.

Kazakhstan Track and Field Tournament started in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on July 4 and finished the next day.
