Iran to honor late museologist Nafisi

The event will be held on June 20, 2012 in memory of one of the most successful women of contemporary Iran who tutored many brilliant students.

Born in 1930, Noushin-Dokht Nafisi was the daughter of renowned Iranian writer Saeed Nafisi. She graduated from the University of Tehran in archeology in 1952 and got her PhD in Ancient Culture and Civilizations in India.

Nafisi also finished UNESCO’s museology and bibliology programs and studied public relations and French Literature in Britain and Paris respectively.

She worked at the National Museum of Iran for fifteen years and was curator of the museum for some time.

Nafisi also worked as a professor of archeology, history of art and museology at different educational and art centers as well as Alzahra and Tehran universities.

Ibn Khaldoun and Timur the Lame, Museology, An Introduction to Iranian Museums, and Pathology of Persian Art are among Nafisi’s best known books.

Noushin-Dokht Nafisi died following a stroke at Tehran’s Shohada Hospital in May 2012.
