FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda Pointing to a tangible gap in the world today for an independent [political] action group, President Ahmadinejad said in a Friday meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa on the sidelines of the Rio+20 Earth Summit in Brazil that, “I believe the NAM with its existing potentials is capable of filling this global gap.”
Referring to Iran’s hosting of the upcoming NAM summit in the capital Tehran, the Iranian president expressed optimism that the movement can utilize its potentials to “take positive steps in the interest of nations.”
Highlighting the friendly and expanding ties between Iran and Sri Lanka, the Iranian president also stressed that efforts should be made in removing the existing obstacles in upgrading bilateral ties to “the highest possible level.”
He said independent countries are faced today with mounting pressures by hegemonic powers in achieving their goals, emphasizing that the determination of nations is quite significant in realizing principal objectives and would prove sanctions and resolutions ineffective.
Sri Lanka’s President Rajapaksa, for his part, thanked the Islamic Republic for its efforts towards the expansion of mutual ties and the implementation of major projects in his country, expressing the nation’s desire for the further development of relations with Iran.
Rajapaksa also emphasized the need to strengthen the NAM in response to what he described as hegemonic pressures against independent nations, expressing hope that Iran’s hosting of the next NAM meeting will elevate the movement in terms of its international influence.
President Ahmadinejad flew to Caracas from Brazil, following his participation in the Rio+20 Earth Summit, formally known as the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. The high-level environmental meeting was held from June 20 to 22 in Rio de Janeiro.
