Iranian director Shapour Qarib dies

Born in 1932 in Semnan, Qarib started his artistic life in theater when he was 15. Thereafter, he continued his career in film arena by assisting late Jalal Moqaddam.

Qarib directed his first movie after working in cinema for 20 years.

Beside his cinematic life, as an author, Qarib wrote two books, Autumn Evening (1960) and Tin Dome (1962).

Oath (2005), Tears and Smiles (1994), Our Small Family (1991), The Hero’s Return (1990), Long Days of Waiting (1990), Shadows of Sorrow (1987) are some of Qarib’s remarkable works.

Produced by Abbas Rafei, A Meeting is Qarib’s last movie that has not been screened in public yet, though presented in several international festivals.

Qarib who was known as one of the pioneer Iranian filmmaker, screenwriter and actor died at his home in Karaj on June 5, 2012.
