Iraqi PM due in Tehran on Sunday

Upon his arrival Sunday, Maliki who is accompanied with three Iraqi ministers will be received by his Iranian counterpart First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi, Mehr News Agency reported on Saturday.

Maliki is scheduled to meet with a number of high-ranking Iranian authorities including Rahimi and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

He will also take part in bilateral meetings to discuss economic and political matters as well as regional issues with Iranian officials.

Iranian and Iraqi officials have frequently exchanged periodical visits for bilateral talks and political consultations.

Maliki’s visit reciprocates a trip to Baghdad last July by the Iranian First Vice President during which Rahimi explored issues of bilateral interest with Iraqi officials.

During Rahimi’s six-day trip to Iraq which started on July 6, 2011, Tehran and Baghdad signed six memoranda of understandings for cooperation in information technology, health and medication, and culture.
