It said the victim had “been planning on divorcing her husband and moving
to the state of Texas.” The documents showed that divorce papers were
found in her car.
The whereabouts of her husband Kassim Alhimidi at the time of the incident
also had not been confirmed, police said.
They said there was also pressure in the family because the daughter, Fatima
Alhimidi, 17, was resisting an arranged marriage to her cousin, and had
recently jumped from a moving car in protest.
The threatening handwritten note found at the scene was a copy, and detectives
wanted to search the house for paper that could match the type it was
written on, the court papers said.
No arrests have been made in the case. Mrs Alawadi and her husband arrived in
the United States in 1993. She was buried last month in Iraq. Members of her
family are still there having gone there for the funeral.
