‘Irked West after adventurism in region’

“Following their defeat in Iraq and Afghanistan and victories of Muslim nations, enemies of Islam and the [Islamic] Revolution saw themselves stuck at a bottleneck,” Larijani said on Thursday.

“They exacerbated pressure [on Iran] over the nuclear energy issue and seek adventurism in the region,” He said

Iran has repeatedly dismissed allegations over its nuclear activities, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

The United States, Israel and some of their allies accuse Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program without offering any evidence verifying such allegations. Washington and Tel Aviv have threatened Tehran with the “option” of a military strike against its civilian nuclear facilities.

The US and the EU have also used the pretext to impose unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Iran’s Majlis speaker, however, emphasized that developing Iran’s economic capabilities would be the most effective way to thwart the threats and sanctions by the hegemonic powers.

“Enemies seek to inflict damage on Iran in political and international fields. We should turn their pressure into opportunities for our country’s development and progress,” Larijani pointed out.
