Man charged over fatal dog attack

A 57-year-old man has been charged following a dog attack that killed a four-year-old girl in Melbourne in August.

Ayen Chol was mauled to death, allegedly by a neighbour’s pit bull mastiff dog in her St Albans home on August 17.

Ayen’s cousin Angelina Mayout, 31, was outside when a dog attacked her and followed her as she ran into the house.

The dog then attacked Ms Mayout’s five-year-old daughter Nyadeng Goaer and when Ayen’s mother Jaclin Appok tried to intervene, the dog turned on the little girl.

The St Albans man has been charged with eight offences under the Domestic Animal Act.

He faces one charge of owning a dog that attacks a person causing death, two counts of owning a dog that attacks a person causing serious injury, three counts of owning a dog that chases/worries a person and one count each of owning a dog found at large and failing to register a dog.

He has been charged on summons is to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates Court on December 6.
