A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being pulled from his burning bedroom in Sydney’s south-west overnight.

Emergency services were called to the house at Raby just after 3:30am (AEDT).

The 62-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition with serious burns and smoke inhalation.

His wife and daughter are also in hospital with smoke inhalation after escaping the fire.

Commander Chris Wilson, from Fire and Rescue New South Wales, says the bedroom was well alight when firefighters arrived.

“Fire crews immediately got to work undertaking search and rescue, and discovered a male person trapped in the rear bedroom,” he said.

“Crews immediately rescued that person and removed them from harm. He was treated at the site and taken to hospital.

“The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but Fire and Rescue personnel and police are continuing their investigations.”
