Man hospitalised after Melbourne shooting

A man has been hospitalised with a life-threatening gun-shot wound this afternoon after a shooting incident in Melbourne’s south-east.

Police say the 37-year-old man from Cheltenham was dropped outside the Dandenong Hospital with a gun-shot wound to the torso.

Detectives have established a crime scene at a house in a street three kilometres from the hospital.

It is the second shooting in Melbourne’s south-east in less than 24 hours after a number of shots were fired through the windows of a family home at Oakleigh about 3am (AEST) on Saturday.

Five people were inside the house but no-one was injured.

Investigations are continuing but police are refusing to provide any details about the circumstances of the shooting, including potential suspects or the property’s residents.

Detective Senior Constable Frank is calling on members of the public to come forward.

“It’s still early stages of the investigation,” he said.

“Pending analysis and investigation by several specialist squads we really don’t want to comment on what type of fire arm was used.

“We’re just appealing for witnesses to come forward and provide us with any information they can.”

Anybody with information on either shooting is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
