Man who beat pregnant partner over toast jailed

A Victorian man has been sentenced to two months jail after he beat his pregnant girlfriend because he didn’t like the way she made his toast.

Corio man Christopher Osbourne, 22, yesterday admitted to 18 charges including recklessly causing injury, assault by kicking, false imprisonment, violating a suspended sentence and a number of driving offences, the Geelong Advertiser reports.

Police prosecutor Leading Constable Kerrie Moroney said the victim was four months pregnant when she made toast for Osbourne on May 31.

“The accused then hit her to the back of the head, the victim hit back and he pulled her back to the floor and she landed on a dinner plate,” Constable Moroney said.

“She said she was concerned for her baby because she hit the floor quite hard.”

The victim was then chased around the house, trying to escape numerous times and to hide herself.

“She felt he would never let her out and because she was in a lot of pain she laid down (in the living room) and he has laid next to her. When he fell asleep she escaped,” Constable Moroney said.

Osborne was sentenced to six months jail with four months suspended for 18 months, placed on a 12-month community corrections order and fined $800.

He was disqualified from driving for six months and will also have to perform 60 hours of community service and undergo treatment for accept anger management treatment.
