Man’s prosthetic legs stolen

Armando Fontaine has lived the last 20 years of his life in a wheelchair after he lost his legs to an infection.

The Army veteran said he has felt safe in his home since he moved there in the 70’s – until now.

“My wife called me and said, ‘The car is not there. They stole it,'” Fontaine said.

Feet away from his wheelchair ramp, right outside his Miami home, his gray, 1996 Nissan Sentra was taken sometime Monday night.

But it’s not just the car that’s gone. His wheelchair mount and prosthetic legs were inside. Without them, he can’t leave his home.

“The only thing we’ve got, the transportation to go to the hospital,” he said.

Fontaine’s wife Marta takes him to the hospital every week. He is blind in one eye and needs treatments.

“I need my car for my husband,” she pleaded.

So now, the Fontaines sit in their Miami home. They are waiting and hoping their car is found soon so they can get back to their lives.

“I’ve got to go to the hospital next week,” Fontaine said. “I don’t know how I’m going to get there.”
