Martin parents want prosecutor probed

Martin’s family wants the US Justice Department to investigate interactions between Wolfinger’s office and a Florida police detective, attorney Ben Crump said.

On February 26, neighborhood watch guard George Zimmerman killed the unarmed 17-year-old outside of his father’s house, claiming that he had acted in self-defense.

Zimmerman has claimed that the victim punched him, knocked him to the ground and slammed his head into the pavement repeatedly before he fired the gunshot. He has not been charged.

This is while recently released police security video shows Zimmerman shortly after the shooting without any injuries to his head or face visible on camera.

ABC News has reported that a police report filed hours after the shooting by the lead homicide investigator, Chris Serino, listed manslaughter under the offenses section.

Serino’s report was later overruled by the state attorney’s office.

“It certainly confirmed all of my thoughts that this investigation had been botched from the beginning and that people other than me knew that there was supposed to be an arrest made,” Martin’s father, Tracy, says.

The suspected racial motivation and police handling of the case has sparked massive, nationwide protests in the US in recent weeks. A grand jury is considering whether to charge Zimmerman and will hear evidence in the case on 10 April.
