Verizon’s LG Lucid out today, offers 4G LTE connectivity for $79.99

If you’re on the lookout for a new 4G LTE Android phone, and want it to have a speedy processor, a sensible screen size and not be forced to spend a fortune upfront, then the LG Lucid may be of interest. The Lucid is a mid-range smartphone, meaning its feature list reads like a year-old high-end model.

Its IPS touchscreen measures 4-inches and is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass, but Verizon’s official page doesn’t state the resolution, however previously leaked information suggests it’s 480 x 800.

An auto-focus 5-megapixel camera sits on the rear of the phone, and is capable of shooting 1080p video, while around the front is a basic VGA camera for video calls.

Deep inside the device is a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM, plus 8GB of internal storage memory and a microSD card slot to boost this figure by up to 32GB. Other features include Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 3.0, DLNA and a 1700mAh battery.

Sadly, the Lucid comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread installed, however Verizon does say it’s upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but doesn’t mention when this will be made available. Our advice: Don’t hold your breath.

The choice of operating system is unfortunate, but as the Lucid is keenly priced, it can be forgiven. If you sign-up for a two-year contract it’s yours for $79.99 after a $50 rebate, however, this being a 4G LTE phone, the required data plan is expensive and will add at least $30 onto the standard tariff.

The LG Lucid should be on sale from today, 29 March.
