Labour leader Ed Miliband calls for a centre-left alliance against austerity measures
Ed Miliband has called for a new centre-left alliance to free Europe from the grip of austerity imposed by David Cameron and German chancellor Angela Merkel.
The proposals, which were announced today, were designed to portray Mr Cameron as a weak statesman ahead of a decisive week in Europe.
On the eve of the G20 summit in Mexico and Greek elections, Mr Miliband reveals he is holding discussions with French President Francois Hollande, about a new gathering of centre-left EU leaders who would act as a rival force in Europe against the old order.
In an interview with The Independent on Sunday the Labour leader says David Cameron and
George Osborne’s approach to the global economy represents the ‘last
gasp of the old’ where ‘collective austerity’ has not worked.
Referring to Mr Cameron and Chancellor Merkel, the Labour leader says: ‘There is a grip of centre-right leadership on Europe which has said there’s only one way forward and that’s austerity and you’ve got to have a decisive move away from that.’
Old order: David Cameron and Angela Merkel form part of a centre-right alliance of EU leaders
Mr Miliband argues that the new pan-European alternative should be based on ‘measured’ deficit reduction and growth policies from those countries enjoying historically low interest rates.
He added: ‘I think it is such a moment of crisis for the international economy, but I also think with the right leadership it’s a moment to be seized.’

Milliband was part of Gordon Brown’s Treasury team, which produced the policies that drove Britain into bankruptcy. He knows as much about economics as I do about flying to the Moon. Having destroyed the UK’s economy, he seems to want to do it to the whole of the EU.

Ed Miliband is no big beast! He is plastic, with no clout. Merkel is having him for breakfast. He’ll be kicked out of politics and into tea making duties, if he pushes Berlin too far. Berlin is prepared to put up with quite a lot, but don’t you dare to overstep the mark

Why not go the whole hog and advocate a massive public borrowing and spending spree just like Gormless thrust upon us. That really worked well as the dumb socialists keep telling us that growth at any price is worthwhile. Try telling that to your grandchildren.

This man has no idea whatsoever. Both he and Mr Balls talk the talk, but have nothing to say about the real problems that that face this Country, problems they helped to cause. The Labour party will do a great deal more to harm the UK if given the chance.

The writing is on the wall Mr Cameron. Call a referendum on the EU or it will be Mr Milliband’s call after the next election.

What a Charlie Milliband and his gang are.
Now he wants Hollande to prop up his ineffectual attempts at economic planning with Ed Balls, who was the architect with Brown of our own economic mess.
