A mother-of-six is fighting for life in hospital after being stabbed in the neck outside the school gates when she went to collect her poorly child.
Carol Bailey was stabbed six times in the neck with a screwdriver outside Abbey Hulton Primary School in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, just yards away from young children in lessons on Monday morning.
Shocked neighbours say Mrs Bailey had been to collect her sick teenage child from a nearby secondary school when she was attacked at the gates of the primary school.

George Simpson, who according to neighbours was an ex-partner of victim Carol Bailey, was charged today in connection with the attack.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: ‘George Simpson is charged with the attempted murder of a 49-year-old woman following an incident in Abbey Road at around 11am on Monday.
‘He will appear at court on Wednesday morning.’

‘The woman remains at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in a stable condition.
‘Following the incident high-visibility patrols by police officers have been increased in the area to reassure local people and keep them updated on the police activity in their community.’
Parents expressed their horror and disgust at the attack on social networking sites.
One mother wrote: ‘The woman who was stabbed was picking her poorly child up from school.’
Another added: ‘What a sick world we live in.’
Horrified neighbours told how they found Mrs Bailey lying in a pool of blood outside the school gates, as her pet dogs guarded her.

Worried parents were sent text messages from the school, asking them to collect their children from school as police sealed off the road.
Parent Michelle Lowry said: ‘I couldn’t believe it when I saw the text message from the school.
‘We were all so worried. We didn’t know if the children had seen what had happened.
‘It’s not the kind of thing you expect to happen outside a primary school.
