Officers were called to a domestic dispute about 1:30pm (AEDT) on a property near Urana, south-west of Wagga Wagga.
Police say that as they approached, they saw a man in his 50s armed with a gun standing next to a 30-year-old woman’s car.
The man shot the woman and immediately turned the gun on himself.
A crime scene has been established and will be examined by forensic specialists.
