NZ man’s Gold Coast death suspicious

The death of a New Zealand man whose body was found at an apartment block on the Gold Coast is being treated as suspicious.

Tony Williams, 38, was found dead by friends at the complex on Sunshine Boulevard about 3pm (AEST) on Saturday, news.com.au reports.

Mr Williams, who is of Maori descent, was believed to be from Tauranga.

Gold Coast Senior Sergeant Bruce Pearce said a number of people were helping police with their inquiries.

“No one is in custody at the moment,” he told the Goldcoast.com.au website.

Police were appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A 36-year-old local resident, who did not want to be named, said he had called emergency services

“I was just cooking lunch around 2pm and heard a guy yelling, ‘Don’t go inside, don’t go inside’,” he said.

“He was shaking really badly and couldn’t really stand properly, I guess he was in shock and just overwhelmed.”

Mr Williams was a singer in three-piece RB group Sex ‘N’ Chocolate, which played every Thursday night at a local nightclub.

A friend, Jackson Douglas, paid tribute on the group’s MySpace page.

“Just heard the news about tonys death and i’m shell shocked, i knew tony from the jiggy house days (sic),” he wrote.
