WASHINGTON — President Obama called on Monday for Congress to adopt his “balanced” plan combining entitlement cuts, tax increases and war savings to reduce the federal deficit by more than $3 trillion over the next 10 years, and said he would veto any approach that relied solely on spending reductions to address the fiscal shortfall.

“I will not support any plan that puts all the burden for closing our deficit on ordinary Americans,” he said. “And I will veto any bill that changes benefits for those who rely onMedicare but does not raise serious revenues by asking the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations to pay their fair share.

“We are not going to have a one-sided deal that hurts the folks who are most vulnerable,” he continued.

His plan, presented in a speech in the Rose Garden of the White House, is the administration’s latest move in the long-running power struggle over deficit reduction. It comes as a joint House-Senate committee begins work in earnest to spell out, at the least, a more modest savings plan that Congress could approve by the end of the year in keeping with the debt deal reached this summer. If a deal is not enacted by Dec. 23, draconian automatic cuts could take effect a year later across government agencies.

I agree. However, the wealthy have accountants that figure out how to avoid taxes, NO MATTER what the tax rate is, as do corporations. The US has one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world, YET GE paid NO US income tax last year, even though they made 15 billion dollars. As we all know, GE was the largest donor to Osambo, so there is no reason to expect them to pay any tax in the future, even if they raise the tax rate to 100%. Osambo knows this, and that is why his suggestion to raise the tax rate on the wealthy is MEANINGLESS. It’s all a shell game.
Warren Buffet Bill Gates and mayor Bloomberg have billions they want to give to Obomber.
Pass a law making it legal for them to do it.
Hey, Osambo, what about GE? Your main donor PAID NO INCOME TAXES, even though there was a corporate tax rate for them. Raising the rate, when they can AVOID taxes altogether is MEANINGLESS, but of course, it makes good press, and you can try to lie to the American people and say you raised taxes.

The idea to let the richest people of this country pay their share is absolutely correct! And close the loopholes on top of it! Just that the headline misleads very much, it simply says tax increase and seems to look like an increase for everybody.

Although everybody pays anyway for the mess the richest people created, in gas, food, whatever….so who is against this is either a millionaire or just plain hateful against everything that comes from the guy, for whatever reason! Which equals pretty much stupidity. Because even a kaput watch gives you twice a day the correct time!
And I do not like him, but if he also tries to install a financial transaction fee of 0.03% like the EU countries plan, I may reconsider. Because this fee would solve all the probs at once and end at least some of the gambling with a nations economy, just that his wallstreet buddies would run crazy about the fee.

So for that he would REALLY need some balls…which he does not have!

The tax rates should be even– the upper five percent shouldn’t be paying 13-17% taxes while the middle class pay 30% in income taxes alone (over 40% if you include Social Security and consumption taxes).
That increases during depression, Hello Hoover. We ned a fiar tax, lower the rate and get rid of deductions. When people say the rich are playing less the 20% its misleading, what happens is capitol gains is double taxation First you pay you rate on your income 25% 35% minus deductions etc., and then you invest some money and now the gain on that money is taxes at 15%. So you already paid tax on that money and then you pay a second time. OK so if you want to have capitol gains taxed the same is to income lower the rate, 15% no deductions for all income. This would be fair and we would collect more revenue and it would help the economy. BYW Obama knows what he is doing, this plan is nothing but a political ploy, to fire up his base, it won’t pass and he will try and blame republicans for the economy “now let me be clear”, if they did my plan, We would be much better off, instead they coddle the rich. I can hear it now. Its all bullshit. The rich can move there money off shore, they can invest on zero interests bonds, They can put there money in trusts (charitable trusts) which they control. They can do al three. On the last one you can choose your income and have the trusts buy everything for you, your home, car, boat etc.,
Rich Americans own 55 trillion dollars of total household wealth, it was made off the backs of hard workers. A redistribution of that wealth would allow every worker to retire with 50 thousand a year for life. In kindness to the formely rich, each of them would be allowed to keep a million dollars of their spoils.
