O’Farrell still favourite with voters

NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell’s popularity has not been dented by Sydney’s recent spate of shootings or a scandal involving one of his senior staff.

A Newspoll carried out during March and April found that the coalition had primary support of 47 per cent with Labor at just 24 per cent.

Mr O’Farrell’s satisfaction rating went up from 46 per cent in January and February to 48 per cent.

Satisfaction for Opposition Leader John Robertson was also up two points to 28 per cent, but 37 per cent of voters were dissatisfied with him.

The Australian, which published the poll, says this is the highest level of dissatisfaction with Mr Robertson this year.

Mr O’Farrell has also widened the gap as preferred premier at 56 per cent, up four percentage points from two months ago.

Mr Robertson’s numbers went down from 15 per cent to 14 per cent.

Since the beginning of the year, shootings have plagued Sydney almost daily.

The premier’s former communications director Peter Grimshaw also stood down after an internal inquiry found he had shown a lack of judgment by forwarding to his girlfriend an email from Mr O’Farrell.
