Under-fire private security firm G4S was at the centre of another embarrassing Olympics scandal today after an employee allegedly
called a soldier a ‘baby killer’ as they worked at a Games venue.

The Asian civilian guard, who faces the sack, is said to have spat at the serviceman and made the abusive remark at the archery contest at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

The remark is believed to have been a reference to the soldier’s service in Afghanistan.

G4S, which had to be bailed out by troops after failing to provide enough guards to protect London 2012 venues, has begun an urgent investigation into the claims.

It said the soldier, understood to be a member of 35 Engineers, had asked to search the security officer.

The incident happened behind the scenes on Saturday evening as spectators watched Italy win the gold medal match against the U.S. in the men’s team archery event.

A spokesman for G4S said: ‘We are urgently investigating claims of an altercation between a security officer and a soldier.

‘We take any case of improper behaviour by a member of our staff very seriously.

‘We do not tolerate insulting behaviour and, where necessary, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.’

The Ministry of Defence described the alleged incident as an ‘isolated occurrence’.

A MoD spokesman said: ‘We can confirm that there was an incident at Lord’s cricket ground on 28 July.

‘The matter was reported and is being investigated by G4S.

‘This isolated occurrence is not indicative of the good working relationship between the military and G4S.’

G4S was forced to admit it had not hired enough security guards to patrol the Games just weeks before they were due to begin, requiring the Government to step in and provide 4,700 extra military personnel to plug the gaps.

Should be instant dismissal, without pay, abusing our military who yet again are called on to help out who cannot answer back should not be tolerated.

My bet is that nothing will happen … as usual.

I love the way this article is slanted to make everyone assume the soldier was subject to an unprovoked attack yet if you read the fine print it says this occurred ‘behind the scenes’ so the guard wasn’t arriving as an ordinary visitor and going through the usual checks. I’d like to know why a soldier was demanding to search a fellow security officer? If there was a question mark over the guards integrity then he has the right for that to be addressed by his seniors not by what is effectively a fellow guard. Are the military assuming they have the right to give orders to the rest of the guards? I know if I were one of the guards I wouldn’t be impressed with a soldier assuming he can boss me about and search me as if I were a criminal. It sounds like a playground power struggle to me – and not something which should be reported on a national scale.

I witnessed first hand the rudeness of the G4S security guards wearing green uniforms. Some tourists were clearly confused at the Olympic Stadium and were asking these guys a question, but due to a communications gap, these G4S security guys were responding with swear words. They were not swearing at the tourists but talking to each other in very audible tones, swearing about the tourists. The security guards themselves could hardly speak clear English. Why does G4S hire these low life in such high profile places. They have to be trained to be polite, to be able to listen, and then to direct people to the right areas or to their supervisors. These were very young persons who were clearly agitated and unhelpful. They have done a grave injustice to the other security guards whom I found to be polite and were greeting spectators with a hello and have a good day.

I am surprised that this “guard” didn’t end up with his teeth punched down his throat, but, thanks to the obvious restraint exercised by this soldier, he is still able to function. Charge him with insulting words and behaviour, fire him, and ensure that he is never employed in security ever again.

“faces the sack”, it should be instant dismissal

Should be an imprisonable offence to verbally assault and spit at a member of our army

He ‘faces’ the sack. Haha, he’s probably just realised he’s not going to be getting his benefits if he’s ‘working’.

The “Asian” should not only be fired, he/she should be arrested and charged with, behavior likely to cause a breach of the peace, insulting language and assault. If I were to do the same thing that’s what would happen to me.
