One killed, scores injured as tornado rips through Japan (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

A massive tornado has swept through eastern Japan, killing a teenager and injuring dozens of others. The twister ripped roofs of buildings, smashed windows and toppled heavy billboards.

The 14-year-old died of injuries received when the roof of a house collapsed.

The raging vortex severely damaged over 500 residential buildings, the Japanese Emergency Ministry reported.

The tornado resulted in massive power cuts – some 20,000 houses have been left without electricity.

The small city of Tsukuba, not far from Tokyo, has suffered the most damage. Local TV released footage from Tsukuba showing almost completely-destroyed buildings and overturned cars in the streets.

The National Meteorology Department has issued a storm warning for 25 out of 47 prefectures in Japan.
