Three Palestinians arrested while working their land
close to the Israeli settlement of Suseya, South Hebron Hills
Suseya – December 22, 2012 – This morning at 10.30 am three Palestinians, Eisa Shamisty, Azmi Shamisty e Mahmoud Shamisty, were arrested while working a land of Palestinian property near the Israeli outpost of Havat Ya’er close to the settlement of Suseya. On the place were about forty Palestinians including men, women and children together with internationals and Israeli activists.
After about ten minutes of work, around twenty settlers arrived and tried to chase the workers away with harassments and physical aggressions. Six army jeeps and the border police, called by the same settlers, reached the place. The army declared the place “closed military area” and kept at distance Palestinians, internationals and Israeli activists. It was not forbidden to settlers to stay inside that area. With the three Palestinians two Israeli activists were arrested as well.
The policy of restrictions, closures and demolitions carried out by the Israeli army, combined with the continuous harassment made by the settlers of the area, denies Palestinians’ human rights, hindering them to live in their villages, to cultivate their lands and to graze their flocks and preventing the development of local communities.
Nevertheless, the Palestinian communities in the South Hebron Hills are strongly involved to claim their rights and resist to the Israeli occupation choosing the nonviolent way.
Operation Dove has maintained an international presence in At-Tuwani and South Hebron Hills since 2004.

[Note: According to the Fourth Geneva Convention, the Hague Regulations, the International Court of Justice, and several United Nations resolutions, all Israeli settlements and outposts in the Occupied Palestinian Territories are illegal. Most settlement outposts, including Havat Ma’on (Hill 833), are considered illegal also under Israeli law.]
