Yesterday Queensland Police played this video to the Coroner’s inquest into the deaths and disappearances of 25 people in the January floods.

The documentary-style account revisits the floods in chronological order, starting with Murphy’s Creek and then showing how the waters continued on to Toowoomba, Grantham and beyond.

There is vision from the scene as well as explanations of how the victims were trapped by the rising waters.

The video runs for 25 minutes but gives a remarkable insight into one of Queensland’s most tragic events.

Below is a small guide of time markers of various events in the footage.

0:45: Murphy’s Creek – Extreme water levels start flowing into Murphy’s Creek from Spring Bluff, East of Toowoomba, claiming the lives of Sandra and Steven Matthews; and Selwyn and Katie Schefe who lived on the banks of Murphy’s Creek.

4:17: Postman’s Ridge – Water flows onto the Warrego Highway before crashing into Withcott and Rocky Creek at Postman’s Ridge where it claims the lives of  Sylvia Baillie and Bruce Warhurst whose homes were engulfed.

7:15: Toowoomba – Walls of water reach Toowoomba, trapping Donna and Jordan Rice in their car before sweeping down to Helidon where James Perry disappears while driving.

12:40: Grantham – Floodwaters sweep through Grantham from the west, engulfing homes and claiming the lives of Bruce Marshall, Reinskje Van Der Werff, Jean Gurr, Pauline Magner, Jessica Keep, Dawn Radke, Llync Clarke-Jibson, Garry McGuire, Joscelyn McGuire, Brenda Ross, Joshua Ross and Christopher Face.

20:45: The next days – Over the next three days, Robert Bromage dies while trying to cross floodwaters at Karrabin, 4-year-old Jesse Wickman dies at Minden while being rescued from a car, Robert Kelly is killed at Brymaroo while driving through the flooded Myall creek and Van Toan Giang dies while trying to swim across floodwaters at Willawong.
