Qld opposition loses parliament offices

Queensland Opposition leader Annastacia Palaszczuk says she still has no access to computers and email three weeks after Labor’s election loss.

Ms Palaszczuk says she was only formally advised on Thursday night that the seven-member opposition would be granted the full complement of resources the previous opposition enjoyed.

Her job was being hampered because access to computers and emails hadn’t been arranged, she said.

“I’ve never seen an opposition treated like this, we just want to get on and do our job,” Ms Palaszczuk told ABC Radio on Friday.

Ms Palaszczuk says the opposition offices would be “booted off” the parliamentary precinct for no good reason.

Purpose-built opposition offices on level six of the parliamentary annexe will be turned into committee rooms, with the opposition offices to move across the road to the Department of Public Works building.

It was the first time opposition MPs would be off the parliament precinct since 1986, Ms Palaszczuk said.

Treasurer Tim Nicholls said the opposition would have full use of level nine of the annexe, and floor space at the public works building.

“They’re getting quite a substantial degree of funding that supported 22 staff when we were in the opposition,” Mr Nicholls said.

He also argued that opposition MPs had been out of the annexe until 2001.

Mr Nicholls said creating additional floor space in the annexe would cost $24 million compared with remodelling level six and moving the opposition offices at $2 million.
