FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda “The intervention will happen. It is not a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’,” the Israeli website DEBKAfile, which is believed to have close links to Israeli intelligence agencies, quoted one unnamed sources as saying on Saturday.
The report said a delegation from the Syrian anti-government militants is currently in Washington to talk about their requests for heavy weapons from the US government.
The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing protesters, but Damascus blames “outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Don DeBar, journalist anti-war activist from New York, to further discuss the issue. The following is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: It seems we should expect an all out war on Syria according to these reports.
DeBar: Everything has been leading here; the actions of the United States have been more or less very clear from the beginning. They backed this. They more or less started it. It’s supposed to end up with regime change accepted by all of the “major powers”.
Russia and China threw them a changeup with the vetoes at the UN and their continuing opposition. Now we have Russia firing a couple of [devices]…last week. China is standing firm also.
The United States doesn’t seem to be willing to back off. I don’t know, we might be looking at a new…Cuban missile crisis at this point with the insanity of this policy.
Press TV: Let’s talk about Syria’s neighbors, especially Turkey. How much have they added fuel to the fire?
DeBar: First of all, Turkey is a part of NATO so their activities are done in coordination with and in subordination to the US military objectives.
You have Jordan where US troops returned from Iraq, or supposedly returned, training insurgents for the Syrian battle. All of this documented leakage of material and man power cross the Lebanese border.
It’s been pouring in from all sides from the very beginning when the first expeditionary forces came in, and the first battle by the way were with US expeditionary forces that came into Syria from the outside and started playing shoot-em-up against the [populations].
Press TV: Where does Israel fit in this case?
DeBar: Israel is a US military base in the neighborhood, basically. It’s a [state] modeled after the United States. It does more or less what the United States tells them to.
It’s got a little bit of a blowback that goes the other way but the essence of it is its policies are made on Wall Street, Washington D.C. and at the Pentagon. Israel does what it’s told and when it’s time to do so.
Press TV: There’s talk in the past about a greater Middle East, a new world order in the Middle East. How do you relate the case of Syria to this greater Middle East?
DeBar: Syria is an ally of Iran. Syria is home to a Russian naval base. Syria has had its own independent foreign policy and is not a colony, economically and politically, of the United States. So it’s the next target after Libya.
When they did this from the beginning, it’s clear that they would go next to Damascus and then probably from there to Tehran…
Press TV: There are reports by the UN observer chief saying that the UN mission in Syria is being temporarily suspended. How would this play out in the long term in Syria?
DeBar: The rebels, “the US backed forces inside Syria have wanted to see that the peace plan not succeed and that their invasion is itself a creation of the break in the peace.” So a peace plan would essentially mean they…their objectives. It’s not a surprise.
Although, the UN is playing a sort of even hand politically in presenting what’s happening, it’s very clear that their policy is going to be in conjunction with the US and Western European policy and they’re going to try and force the issue to get the Assad regime.
I don’t think the Syrian people will stand for it and it looks like Russia and China are not going to stand for it either.
