Russian opposition supporters rally against Vladimir Putin

“If we are cheated another time, if there are falsifications again, then
we really need to come out for a decisive fight. We have applied (to the
Moscow Mayor’s office to hold a rally) at Lubyanskaya square in Moscow, near
the Central Electoral Commission. If they don’t let us, we will still go out
there,” Mr Udaltsov said.

Tens of thousands have turned out for opposition protests around the country
since a December 4 parliamentary election in which Putin‘s
United Russia
party won a slim majority, venting anger over suspected fraud in favour of
the party and calling for an end to Putin’s rule.

“We want an easier life for our children, and for our grandchildren. We
want things to be honest and the authorities to change more frequently,”
St Petersburg resident and protester Valentina Yegorova said.

“Hello to the city of three revolutions! Is it time for a fourth one? Yes
or no? Yes or no?” Mr Navalny told a cheering crowed under low grey
skies in Russia’s second city.

“The most important thing, is that I do not want the whole world to know
that our country is headed by a thief. What is his name? Putin is a thief!
St. Petersburg should say that Putin is a thief! To the whole country: Putin
is a thief!” Navalny chanted from stage with protesters echoing his
words.

Putin is expected to win the March 4 election with two thirds of the vote,
easily enough to avoid a humiliating second round run off, the last major
poll before the vote showed on Friday.
