‘Sa’ada war failed to weaken people’

“They wanted to spread hatred among us in order to segregate us, but the war had an opposite effect and people became more united,” Hadi Mohamed Basher told Press TV.

The Yemeni and Saudi war on Sa’ada has not yet been forgotten as the specter of war can be seen by local residents in everyday activities.

“The US and Saudi-backed war on Sa’ada tried to destroy everything in the province. They used the schools as military bases and launched attacks on homes and people,” one resident said.

People who witnessed the war say they still have not been giving an answer to why the war was launched in the first place and neither have been reimbursed or compensated for property damages.

Residents of Sa’ada say that although the war destroyed many homes, farms and local infrastructure, it has failed to destroy the will of people.

The people in Sa’ada still suffer from the aftermath of the war launched by the Yemeni military backed by Saudi forces in 2009.

The Houthi group, led by Abdul-Malek al-Houthi, started a struggle against the doctorial regime of former Yemeni ruler Ali Abdullah Saleh after suffering years of widespread human rights violations and political and religious discrimination against their community in the north of the country.

During Saleh’s three-decade-long rule, Sa’ada and neighboring Amran Province, the strongholds of the Houthis, were frequently pounded by fighter jets and helicopter gunships.
