A schoolgirl aged ten took cocaine in a playground after her friend found a drug dealer’s stash in a tube of Pringles crisps.

The youngster tasted the Class A drug after her friend found the bag in an empty box of cheese and onion Pringles snacks.

Dealer Jamie Bartholomew, 31, was arrested after pupils at Southdown Junior School, Newhaven, East Sussex, told a teaching assistant about the drug, Hove Crown Court heard.

Barbara Down, prosecuting, said: ‘In the playground another pupil tasted the substance. This was told to a teaching assistant.’

The
school contacted Sussex police who traced the drug to Bartholomew and
raided his house where 20 grammes of cocaine worth more than £1,000 was
found along with small amount of cannabis.

John Marsden-Lynch, defending, said: ‘Bartholomew was unable to work at the time and dealt the drug to raise money.

‘He is, or was, in desperate circumstances.

‘It goes without saying he is ashamed of what he has done.

‘He helped train a boy’s under-15 football team.’

Bartholomew pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cocaine, possession of the drug with intent to supply and possession of cannabis.

Judge Michael Lawson said: ‘You have done a terrible thing. The way the cocaine was found was horrific.

‘Your help for young people goes straight through the window. There is material before me which justifies me in taking a wholly exceptional course.’

Bartholomew, of Newhaven, was given a 12-month sentence suspended for two years, ordered to carry out 150 hours’ unpaid community work and placed under a curfew for four months.

Thousands of children born and unborn are poisoned by alcohol daily, or killed or maimed by automobiles, Your homes are filled with this brain damaging poison and there is not a childproof cap to found. The ignorance about alcohol, and drugs can only be put down to the fact they everybody is under the influence of the only drug that has been proven to damage brains, death’s right hand man alcohol.
Remember! Only you can stop drinking and thinking.

Once you pop, you just can’t stop.

Why was it in a school?? Half a story…. Also, silly of the 10 year old for tasting it. My 3 year old wouldn’t be daft enough to do that.

“John Marsden-Lynch, defending, said: ‘Bartholomew was unable to work at the time and dealt the drug to raise money.” – Wouldn’t you just hate to be a defence lawyer if you have to give pathetic excuses like this in court?

We need to build some big new prisons, make them basic, adequate with no luxuries. Give the inmates lots of hard physical work – a bit like a chain gang – and MAKE them work hard. I don’t care what they do, breaking rocks, whatever.Run it along the lines of military training, strict rules, swift punishments, but no pay. No perks like cigarettes and DEFINITELY no mobile phones. 10 hours of that every day on a basic food ration, then 2 hours of education in how to behave as a decent member of society. When they leave they should be slim, know right-from-wrong, and never want to go to prison ever again. Every prisoner should be released on licence so that they know if they re-offend within say 5 years, they are definitely going back inside. They should be released into a labour program where they have to do supervised community work if they cannot find a job themselves, not allowed to just go on benefits. The licence should include an evening/night-time curfew in the initial stages ….

In case you was unsure what a tube of cheese and onion Pringles look like, we have posted a picture… Thanks DM!

Why are we so soft on cases like this today?

Has the writer of this article lost the space button? 🙂

10 year old eating something she didn’t know what it was. 10 YEAR OLD. Not a baby. So what had the parent taught her to date. Eat anything you find it won’t be poison?
Can anyone tell me why anyone taking illegal drugs is not prosecuted and more so when public figures.
