Shane Jenkins subjected his ex-lover to a 12-hour attack in which he broke her jaw, throttled her until she was unconscious and blinded her by gouging out her eyes.

But despite admitting the horrific attack in court, he is now trying to blame ex Tina Nash for the assault – and says he’s actually a caring person.

The 33-year-old thug claims he is misunderstood, and has made out that he was only trying to calm Miss Nash down when he launched his terrifying attack.

‘I didn’t start the whole thing that night. She’s the one that attacked me. I’m not as evil as everyone has made out, I’m actually really chilled,’ he told the Daily Mirror in a phone call from a psychiatric unit.

‘I’m caring. I look after people. Do you know what I mean? I’m an outgoing person.’

Calling from the unit in Dawlish, Devon, where he is being held after a diagnosis of delusional disorder, Jenkin tried to justify his appalling and cowardly assault.

Jenkin said the couple had been drinking all afternoon with their neighbours and smoking marijuana. Miss Nash’s mood had soured after he had offered his neighbours sleeping tablets when they left, Jenkin claimed.

‘I’m not the one who started the fight. I tried my best to calm her down. She was throwing her fists at me. She was just going for me,’ the 6ft 4in sicko told the Daily Mirror.

Jenkin admitted he ‘went nuts’ and ‘lost the plot’ when he began to fear that the neighbours would hear the attack and call the police.

‘And then I strangled her, because she was shouting,’ he said.

He claimed to have unsuccessfully tried to telephone a friend to help Miss Nash, but admitted he didn’t call an ambulance as he was worried the police would arrive.

Earlier this month, Jenkin was handed an indeterminate sentence with a minimum of six years, which he will serve in a mental hospital, after admitting grievous bodily harm with intent.

Miss Nash told the court that during the attack, Jenkin ‘was blaming me, saying, “It’s all your fault – I am going to do years for this”’.

The court heard that Jenkin attacked Miss Nash while she slept at her home in Hayle, Cornwall.

Ignoring her desperate pleas to call an ambulance, Jenkin kept her imprisoned for 12 hours and throttled her into unconsciousness before blinding her.

She had several operations over four weeks of hospital treatment but surgeons could not save her eyes.

Miss Nash, 32, told the court of her heartache at knowing she will never again see her two sons.

Losing her sight felt like being buried alive, she said.

The night before the appalling attack, Jenkin had watched a horror film with Miss Nash that featured a woman having her eyes gouged out.

Describing the assault last April, Judge Christopher Clarke said that Jenkin ‘repeatedly held her tightly around the neck and, as he continued to strangle her, she lost consciousness and from time to time she hallucinated’.

Jenkin had attacked Miss Nash before. Tina said she had thought she could change Jenkin’s violent behaviour but warned other victims of domestic violence to get out ‘before it is too late’.

Jenkin had also been repeatedly banned from his local pubs in Penzance for violence, and three months before he blinded Miss Nash he was reportedly charged with breaching bail following an assault charge.
