Pay Pal founder and early Facebook investor Peter Thiel has given $1.25 million to an initiative to create floating libertarian countries in international waters, according to a profile of the billionaire in Details magazine.

Thiel has been a big backer of the Seasteading Institute, which seeks to build sovereign nations on oil rig-like platforms to occupy waters beyond the reach of law-of-the-sea treaties. The idea is for these countries to start from scratch–free from the laws, regulations, and moral codes of any existing place. Details says the experiment would be “a kind of floating petri dish for implementing policies that libertarians, stymied by indifference at the voting booths, have been unable to advance: no welfare, looser building codes, no minimum wage, and few restrictions on weapons.”

“There are quite a lot of people who think it’s not possible,” Thiel said at a Seasteading Institute Conference in 2009, according to Details. (His first donation was in 2008, for $500,000.)

  1. DO NOT BELIEVE HIM…he is a liar …First, he should get his PayPal in order…which loots customers of every penny, there are millions of unsatisfied Paypal customers worldwide….He is the monopoly online in the payment industry ‘cos his handlers AKA rulers of this world does not allow any new competitive payment processor to come along.

Just google paypal sucks and you will know millions of people are been scammed..

I don’t get it how folks in the alternative media believes every thing when someone starts doing something against the system……please do some research on his background….

ohh..by the way..Did i mention…He is a member of Skull and Bones ….There you go..

  2. I like Thiel. He has some great ideas, specifically the “paying kids to not attend college” (though there is certainly more to it than that). Essentially he is trying to build or help entrepreneurs achieve their visions. We need more like him and people willing to take big risks.

The libertarian island idea sounds great on the surface but I’m not sure how sustainable it would be. I hope them all the best in their ventures.

    • You do know hes BIGTIME bilderberg? I read he also funds this but bilderberg opposes it on the outside. Another example of crooks doing what they want and telling you not to do it.
