When I posted on Solar Roadways’ plan to raise $1m via IndieGogo, I confessed to being a tad skeptical.
True—our editor Lloyd’s own skepticism for the project had been already challenged when the start-up managed to raise $750,000 to build a larger prototype.
Still, raising $1m via crowdfunding seemed a lofty goal indeed. And it didn’t help that their video seemed, well, a little gentle. All my skepticism has once again been blown out of the water, as the IndieGoGo campaign has already raised over $1.5m and there are still three days to go.
I’m excited. I want these guys to succeed. And I am also very pleased to see that someone made them a new video—which, judging by the 7,000,000 views, may have a big part in the campaign’s success. And with good reason. It is freakin’ awesome.
Be warned though. Some people still think the whole concept is pretty silly.
