Syrian Army: Operations in Christian village of Maaloula continued

Syrian Army units resume military operations in Syrian village of Ma’loula.

The new reports about the current situation in and around the ancient Syrian village of Maaloula (Ma’loula / Arabic: معلولا‎) say that the units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) were able to retake the control about 60 percent of the Christian village, which is located in the north of the capital, Damascus.

It is also mentioned that the operating units of the Syrian Army in and around the mountainous Christian village of Maaloula (Ma’loula) have resumed the mop-up operations against the foreign-backed terrorist groups and the armed jihadist forces of the so-called Jabhat al-Nusra (al-Nusra Front).

Maaloula (Ma’loula) is a Syrian village that is located in the north of the Rif of Dimashq (Damascus), which means, it`s in the countryside of Syria’s capital, Damascus. Maaloula (sometimes also Maalula) is about 56 kilometres in the northeast of Damascus.

The ancient mountain village of Maaloula (Ma’loula) is famous as one of the last villages where the people are still able to speak Western Aramaic. The other two areas in Syria where the residents are also able to speak Aramaic are the villages near to Ma’loula, Bakh’a and Jubb Adin.  The historic village in Syria is also a part of the UNESCO list of all the world heritage sites, is also the home of two of the oldest surviving monasteries in Syria: the monasteries of Mar Sarkis and Mar Takla.

The residents of Maaloula are mainly Muslims or Christians and the ancient villages was one of the famous places of interest for tourists in Syria before the Syrian conflict began. However, since the beginning of the Syrian conflict, the villages in the region near Syria’s capital Damascus were already often attacked by the foreign-backed terrorist groups and al-Qaeda-linked jihadists.

These US-backed Islamist forces and armed terrorist groups have already destroyed as well as damaged several Christian churches and installations in the region and also inside the Syrian village of Maaloula (Ma’loula).

These religious fanatics and foreign-supported mercenaries and thugs destroy the cultural heritage in Syria and of the religious minorities in the Arab countries. Not to mention that this cultural heritage also represents the history of Christianity and other religious beliefs. The foreign-backed terrorist groups and Al-Qaeda-affiliated jihadists damage the cultural heritage and destroy the history of Syria. Especially when they find Christian churches on their brutal sectarian campaign through Syria.

The new reports about the current situation in and around the Syrian village of Maaloula (Ma’loula) say that the units of the Syrian Army have resumed their military operations against the foreign-backed terrorists inside the ancient Christian village in the mountains, which are located in the northern area of the countryside of Damascus. A security source in the capital Damascus said about the situation in Maaloula (Ma’loula) that the units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) have eliminated a number of Al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorists inside the village of Maaloula (Ma’loula).

The ancient and historic Christian village of Maaloula (Ma’loula) is still hard-fought and the fights between the soldiers of the Syrian Army against the Al-Qaeda-linked terrorists are often very intense. The village itself gets more and more destroyed by the fights. However, after the foreign-backed Al-Qaeda forces were able to take the control of many parts of Maaloula (Ma’loula), the Syrian Army units were now able to regain the control about some parts of the historic Christian village in the north of Damascus.

The once famous and beautiful area and the well-known village of Maaloula (Ma’loula) is now actually history. It does not matter anymore whether the army units are able to restore security in the area of Maaloula (Ma’loula), the foreign-backed terrorists and the Al-Qaeda-linked jihadists have destroyed the famous village and one of the most interesting places in Syria. The beautiful scenery of Maaloula (Ma’loula), the ancient houses and the spirit and history of this area in Syria, it is now more than just damaged.

The reports about Maaloula (Ma’loula) also say that the Syrian Army units continue to advance into the village in order to defeat the armed terrorist forces. The “pockets of resistance” by the Al-Qaeda-linked terrorists in the historic Christian village of Maaloula (Ma’loula) consist of snipers and some heavy weapons.

According to the security source from Damascus, the recapture of the ancient Syrian village of Maaloula (Ma’loula) is therefore difficult because of its geography. Maaloula (Ma’loula) is nestled in the side of a cliff of the mountains in the north of Damascus. This makes it understandably an easy target for those terrorists who are stationed above it.
