AL-KHALIL, (PIC)– The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF), on Friday, stepped up measures around the Ibrahimi Mosque at the centre of the southern West Bank city of al-Khalil.
Local sources informed PIC correspondent that dozens of soldiers were deployed, since the early hours of Friday, in the area surrounding the Ibrahimi Mosque and the set up roadblocks where they checked the ID cards of Palestinian passersby. They added that the soldiers manning the checkpoint outside the Mosque also restricted access of Palestinian residents.
Israeli sources reported that a number of Jewish settlers, at dawn Friday, converged on Zaweyat al-Magareba to the north of the Mosque and carried out religious rites at a tomb they claim to be one of their saints while Palestinians say it is the tomb of a Muslim person.
