To My Brother Killed in Battle

The arts, literature and poetry, were very important to the peoples of the workers Reich. Literature, poetry and art were the roots through which the folk sustained their unique culture. Immersion in one’s being, experienced through the third eye, is a binding influence on the nation. Warriors, wherever in the world they are posted, know their land and their folk are with them.

The bones of the martyrs of Europe are plentiful and as scattered as are the poppies abundant on Flanders fields. We mourn the loss of our kinfolk, foe and comrade alike; we lament the destruction of cities, towns, and infrastructure. Please spare a thought for the lost works of irreplaceable art consumed in the conflagration of the RAF / USAF carpet bombing raids of Central Europe.

Let us not forget either the art, prose, the poetry composed by battlefield bards from Finland to the Black Sea. Many are the sonnets and odes to loved ones, to homeland and God, now sleeping in the tunic pockets of our fallen foe. Count the stars; this is how many there are.

TO MY BROTHER KILLED IN BATTLE

Are you a peach tree or a beech tree?
A birch grove, a little ivy leaf?
I am looking for you, my brother, and I am looking
For the thing into which God has changed you.

Is your soul bound to a form?
Is it a living one or inanimate.
I will love it as I have found it,
And even in stone it is familiar to me.

Is it a blade of grass, a lilac bloom?
I will ask the sun to make
Completely golden with its fire,
Each being which resembles yours.

I will have compassion on the little beetle,
That struggles upwards out of your grave.
I will embrace the wood and the sand on it,
I will bless the bird that sings above it.

But if you are a thought, and if in thinking it,
I might transcend earthly limits,
Then I want to immerse myself in it so deeply,
That I find you again in the Godhead.
