Shamed MP Aidan Burley has broken his silence over the Nazi stag-do row which saw him sacked, apologising for his “crass and insensitive” behaviour.

Speaking for the first time since the incident, which resulted in his sacking from his post as a parliamentary private secretary, the Tory politician apologised for the “terrible offence” he caused.

In a lengthy statement, Staffordshire MP Mr Burley expressed his “deepest regret” and admitted he had put his family through ten days of “hell”.

Addressing his “bad error of judgement”, the 32-year-old told his Cannock Chase constituents they “deserved better” from their local MP.

He said: ‘There are no excuses for my foolish behaviour which, over the past two weeks, has caused so much distress to so many people.’

But he strenuously denied that he had taken part in toasts to the Third Reich, and distanced himself from the “inexcusable behaviour” of other guests at the party, held at a ski resort in France.

He said: ‘I think it is important to
make one thing very clear: Being involved in a fancy dress party does
not mean you endorse, tacitly or explicitly, the actions and philosophy
of the person that is being impersonated.

‘In fact, quite the opposite is true. I have no sympathies whatsoever with Nazism, racism, or fascism.

‘I
also wish to make clear, as the Mail on Sunday did, that I personally
did not participate in any alcohol-fuelled attempted toasts by other
guests to the Third Reich.

‘Nor
did I participate in any chants, offensive or otherwise. As the video
showed, I left the restaurant immediately when that inexcusable
behaviour by other guests started.’

Mr Burley, who was sacked this week
as a parliamentary private secretary to Transport Secretary Justine
Greening, is under investigation by Prime Minister David Cameron after
photos emerged of him at the event.

During
the party, a guest donned a replica SS officer’s uniform and another
reportedly toasted the “ideology and thought processes” of Adolf
Hitler’s regime.

Mr
Burley, who revealed one person had lost their job over the allegations,
would not directly address claims that he hired the uniform.

Speaking yesterday, Mr Burley said: ‘Being involved in a stag party where an SS uniform was worn was wrong and offensive.

‘It was the wrong decision on my part, crass and insensitive.

‘I am deeply sorry, and want to take this opportunity to offer the people of Cannock Chase an unreserved, wholehearted and full apology for the terrible offence this incident has undoubtedly caused.’

The Conservative Party said the MP was being removed from his post and it was launching a fuller investigation “in light of information received”.

The strange thing about COMMON sense is that it’s RARELY found in politicians of all parties.

This disreputable oaf boasts that he is a close friend of David Cameron and that he often pops around to see the Prime Minister.Cameron seems to atttract people like Burley,Gove, Osborne, Coulson and Brookes. It makes you question his judgement.

well i for one do not accept his apology and i do not think any person morals and principles in the cannock chase area will either.
this man has no principles,he says one thing and does the opposite.like telling people he believes we should all have a vote on the refferendum of the E.U and that he believes we will all get a refferendum but then goes and votes against giving us one in parliment.
a man of principles sticks to what he believes no matter what .

What is wrong with these people? Reminds me of Prince Harry’s ‘costume’ a few years back.
I’m surprised that, not only are these people not mature enough to recognise that dressing up as a Nazi is inappropriate from the beginning, but that they’re living in the public eye and can’t seem to comprehend that there will be many people offended who will have easy access to these images.
The outfit would be inappropriate for your average, nobody Joe-Blo at a backyard party, let alone for someone who KNOWS they are in a position where their actions are viewed by thousands.
How can they not see what a horrible idea this is BEFORE they wear the costumes? And did Aidan Burley not see the fuss that went down over Harry’s outfit and learn a lesson from that?
Stupidity,

As a Jewish Conservative supporter, this is absolutely disgusting, I am now rethinking my previous political alliance! The Conservatives were a party which held so many morals and traditions without going to the extremes of eugenics and racism, that were rumoured in the past, but it looks like some still exists!
However;I know the majority of Conservatives think his behaviour is abhorrent so how did he get that job in the first place?!?!
Chag Channukah/Happy Christmas.

‘Days of hell’….no…no…Just ask anyone who had family in a concentration camp what days of hell is all about.

Time for Cameron to act and kick this liar out. There shouldn’t be any room for people who find the Nazi’s good fun and insult people in a Restaurant. Do they think that they can behave like the Bullingdon Bullies in France?

This MP is making a partial apology again. It seems to be the same method used by Cameron and Hague over Lord Ashcroft’s Tax Dodging when Freedom of Information eventually exposed the fact that Hague and Cameron had been telling lies about Ashcroft’s Tax Status for years. No apology or explanation was given but Cameron explained that he had persuaded Lord ashcroft to keep his promise and start paying UK Tax after dodging it for years with every Tory MP lieing about it. Cameron used the same technique for MP’s expenses and also got away with it. Of course it helps to have a fawning Press.

Just how much is this sort of apology worth believing . When you consider
what he has to lose by not making it

How worrying that someone with such a lack of sensitivity and judgement should be running this country. I agree we deserve better, so he will be resigning as an MP then?
