True story of Palestine

July 1, The Iran Project – The name of Palestine is repeated almost every day in the world’s media. Some talk about Palestinians’ missile attacks against defenceless Israelis and some others about Gazans’ killing by Israeli armed forces. It is obvious that the media are not neutral in reflecting the daily news of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and each one talks in favour of one of the two main sides.

The world countries are also divided into two groups of pro-Israel and pro-Palestine. Of course, in some countries, like Iran, both governments and people support Palestine, and in some others, people disagree with the government’s support for the Israel.

Iranian people and government have always supported Palestine. In a recent meeting with Ramadan Abdullah, the head of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underlined Iran’s commitment to providing unwavering support for Palestine, stressing that this approach is not confined to a specific period of time.

On the other hand, both American people and government side more heavily with Israel. US President Barack Obama and majority of Americans believe that Israel is justified in taking military action against Hamas and the Palestinians in the area known as Gaza.

But in the midst of everyday events and publishing Israelis-Palestinians’ conflicts, the true story of Palestine is gradually forgotten.

When did the issue of Palestine begin?

Some think that the Palestine’s story started in 1948 when the State of Israel was recognized in the United Nations; others refer to the Jewish immigration from Nazi Germany as the starting point of Palestine’s story. In fact, official declaration of Jewish settlement in Palestine dated back to 1895 and the book of Theodore Herzl.

Over half a million Israelis live in more than 230 illegal settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the West Bank, including East al-Quds. All the Israeli settlements are illegal under international law. However, Tel Aviv has defied calls to stop settlement expansions.

Before World War II, Zionists chose Palestine to create a Jewish state and then used all advertising potentials such as the Jews holocaust by the Germans. So it can be said that the story of Palestine is in fact the story of occupation.

The story of occupation

One of the myths that has been raised about Palestine is the legend of selling land to Jews. This is while only 6% of the current Israeli lands was sold and granted to them by the Britain (Palestine guardian). The rest were obtained by the Israelis in the wars of 1948, 1967, 1973 and other continuous occupations.

Israel has also occupied other countries like Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. The Golan Heights and the Shebaa Farms are now in Israel’s hands; Egypt has not been deprived of its unwelcome neighbor that occupied Sahara Sinai.

During the third Arab-Israeli conflict–the Six-Day War of 1967–Israel greatly increased its borders, capturing from Jordan, Egypt, and Syria the Old City of Jerusalem, the Sinai Peninsula, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and the Golan Heights; the status of these territories subsequently became a major point of contention in the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Palestinian refugees, an endless story

The story of Palestine refugees has started since the first day of Palestine’s occupation. The number of Palestine refugees is now much more than the beginning of the occupation since whenever Israel invades Palestine, the number of refugees is added.

Palestinian camps in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon is now home to several generations of Palestinians who have no place in their own country or in the host one.

But the true story of Palestine does not end here. Infanticide, economic and therapeutic blockade of Gaza, and daily attacks on the Palestinian people are an endless story that is continually being repeated in Palestine.

The Gaza Strip has been under an Israeli siege since June 2007. The blockade has caused a decline in the standards of living as well as unprecedented levels of unemployment and unrelenting poverty.

Quds day, a time to recall Palestine’s story

Last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan is a time to recall the story of Palestine. Although many believe that the only way to solve the issue of Palestine is to compromise, but the Israel’s occupation process shows that negotiation can’t work.

Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon and the 33-day war also showed that resistance is the only fundamental solution to the Palestinian problem that can end Israel’s occupations.

In 2000, the day when the resistance liberated south Lebanon from Israeli occupation, Hizbollah leader Seyed Hassan Nasrullah said “I tell you, Israel which owns nuclear weapons and the strongest air fleets in the region, is feebler than a spider’s web.”

Yes, it is possible to defeat and send out Zionist regime out of Palestine, even though they might be armed to the teeth and supported by the world’s superpowers.
