UK army generals quit over defense cuts

The news comes ahead of the Ministry of Defense’s (MoD) announcement of the launch of the Future Force 2020 plan on Thursday that will see the army to shrink back to numbers unseen in 200 years.

This comes as The Daily Telegraph that made the revelation said some of the generals who have quit their jobs have been among the “very best” military “talents” of the army and top strategists in their ranks.

The paper said the resignation list includes director general of army personnel Andrew Gregory and a top Iraq war and former Special Air Service commander Major General Jonathan Shaw while several other very senior officers are also giving “serious consideration” to leaving.

The MoD’s staff cutbacks have been widely criticized by the members of the armed forces with one senior army officer saying they “face existential meaninglessness.”

The MoD is especially under pressure for its decision for pushing ahead with two multi-billion-pound aircraft carrier projects at the expense of cutting 12,000 soldiers.
