Teenage girls stabbed in Gold Coast shopping brawl

Two teenage girls were hospitalised last night after allegedly stabbing each other at a Gold Coast shopping centre.

Police said they received reports that a ‘‘group of girls’’ were involved in a fight at Robina Town Centre about 7.45pm.

Upon their arrival police found two girls, aged 16 and 17, with suspected stab wounds.

The pair was taken to Gold Coast Hospital, but their injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

The 17-year-old girl was allegedly the first to pull a knife, before she herself was stabbed in the scuffle.

It has been reported the girls became involved in a fight over shoes while shopping, but police have not yet confirmed the circumstances.

It is not clear whether the girls knew each other before the incident.

Detectives from the Child Protection Investigation Unit are investigating.

Robina Town Centre was the scene of a bikie-related shooting in April.

Gold Coast Bandidos bikie Jacques Teamo was shot in the arm by an alleged member of a rival outlaw motorcycle club. On that occasion, an innocent female shopper was hit by a stray bullet.
