UN Congress blocks $159m in aid to Palestinians

Days of Palestine, New York -Members of the American Congress have delayed paying $159m in aid for the Palestinian Authority (PA), official said on Saturday.

The PLO Ambassador to Washington Maen Erekat said that the US Congress was blocking the payment at the request of House Republican Kay Granger, the Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State-Foreign Operations.

Granger demanded the blocking of the American aid to the PA under the pretext that the PA supports “terrorism,” referring to the Palestinian protests.

However, he ignored that more than 205 Palestinians have been killed only in the span of three months -since start of October last year.

It is worth mentioning that Obama administration allocated $440m in aid to PA for 2015, including $131m for economic and development projects by USAID and $70m for PA agencies and security services.

In October, 2015, the US administration deducted $80m of the aid following a pressure of by Israeli official, who accused the PA of inciting terrorism.
