FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda “America should send back to Iraq those archives which the Iraqis will take care of as they have so many things from their really ancient history and many of those Jewish artifacts go back a long, long way. That is where they should be because that is where they come from, some people say,” former US Chief of the Mission in Iraq, Edward Peck, told Press TV in an exclusive interview on Monday.
Following the US invasion on Iraq, Iraqi archaeological treasures and artifacts were sent to the United States under a signed agreement, that allowed the US to hold them until 2005, but the US never sent them back.
This is while the Iraqi media reported last month that Washington has transferred the historical treasures to Israel.
The information angered archeologists and officials who accuse Washington of looting Iraq’s cultural heritage, and dissuaded Iraqi authorities from continuing cultural cooperation with the US.
According to a program that has been ongoing in many world states, the artifacts should return to the countries from which they came from, Peck went on to say.
The artifact archive includes centuries-old Torah scrolls and plenty of other documents in Hebrew, Arabic, and English.
“Having those artifacts returned would remove an impediment to US-Iraqi relations and would also return to the place from which they came,” the former US diplomat continued.
“The Iraqis know how to take care of their history and they do a very good job or at least they did until the Americans overthrew the government and a lot of things were taken from the Iraq museum which I used to go to very frequently just to look and admire what they had and how they were taking care of it. They do know how to do that,” he concluded.
