Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro recalled Ambassador Alberto Castelar from Brasilia for consultations in Caracas on Friday, to evaluate the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff and the current situation in Brazil.

Maduro appeared on State radio and television, saying “we are evaluating this painful page in the history of Brazil”.

Maduro and Venezuelan State media echoed the words of Dilma Rousseff who described her impeachment as a modern coup d’Ètat. Maduro also echoed the position of the Secretary-general of UNASUR, Ernesto Samper, and other leftist governments in the region who reject the impeachment of Rousseff.

Some analysts, including Marcelo Ridenti, Professor of Sociology, Universidade Estadual de Campinas fear that Brazil threatens to descend into a disguised police state.

The situation in Brazil is in many regards “too close for comfort” for Nicolas Maduro and his PDSV administration. The MUD dominated Venezuelan parliament is currently attempting to impeach Maduro.
